‘Don 2’ makers relieved of copyright infringement case

In some relief for the makers of the movie 'Don 2' which is on the verge of releasing worldwide, the Bombay High Court rejected the stay on the film. The Bombay High Court heard the suit regarding the copyright infringement case on the movie.

The copyright case was filed by the makers of the 'Don' movie which was released in the year 1978 by Nariman Films and Irani Family. The plaintiffs alleged that the producers, Farhan Akhtar, Shahrukh Khan and Ritesh Sidhwani copied the idea of the older film.

It was also alleged that the producers of the movie 'Don 2' copied the script, characters and the music of the older version. Justice SF Vajifdar said that he could not grant a stay on the movie as the theatre owners were not present before the court.

The court also considered the fact that the movie is about to be released on December 21 in the overseas and on the 23th in the Indian theatres. The filers of the suit have also demanded damages worth Rs 200 crores. Meanwhile, the court is yet to decide on the damages and the makers have been ordered to maintain and preserve all the accounts relating to the film till the matter is disposed.
